Many people attempt to learn how to play guitar on their own, using a basic beginner's guitar instruction book that shows some basic techniques, chord shapes and a few progressions. While these things are important, most people soon get frustrated because they can't make the guitar sound like the songs they want to play.
Rude likens this to the famous movie, "The Karate Kid" where the actor, Ralph Machio goes to the old karate instructor and he has Ralph "Wax on, and wax off" his boat. Ralph gets upset and feels he is wasting his time until the wise old karate instructor takes a punch at Ralph. Because of the strength Ralph has gained from cleaning the boat using a certain method, he is able to defend himself against the punch.
The moral of the story is, if you want to play guitar, you must first strengthen your hands, get you fingers to move independently and develop some calluses on your fingertips so you can then actually learn how to play some music.
Through years of study with instructors like Ambrose Rivera, Steven Kats and Carl Filipiak, Rude has developed training techniques that will insure that the beginning guitar student gets off to the right start. For intermediate students, Rude can instruct on the fundamentals of improvising, playing and singing simultaneously, and the ins and outs of performing with others and playing live in front of an audience.
